New tunes for Bandcamp Friday!

Today is Bandcamp Friday, the day when Bandcamp gives their fees back to the artists. The long and short of it is that artists make more money today through Bandcamp. Just to put it into perspective, when you stream a song on Spotify, artists get on average $0.0013 per stream. So buying music really helps us out.

I’ve taken the opportunity of Bandcamp Friday to offer exclusive content that you can only get on their platform. Today I’ve released some new songs that I found in my ‘archive’ for you to enjoy:

Leesta Vall Live Acoustic

During the pandemic, I did some live acoustic recordings for Leesta Vall that went on exclusive vinyl. Some of the recordings are being made available for the first time ever.

Included is Betsy Layne and In the Pines. The later you might recognize as Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Made famous by Nirvana in their MTV Unplugged performance.

New Rarities

Previously, I released a compilation called Rarities & Embarrassments that included songs from my old band The Disappointments, live records, and demos. This week I found a couple of tracks that I decided to add to this complication:

Little Disappointment (Live Jam Version) - This is from one of The Disappointments first-ever shows at the Elbo Room in Chicago. At the end of the song is a feedback jam where we channel Sonic Youth. It's the only time we ever did this jam live. I also can’t remember who jumped on stage and yelled into the microphone.

Outta Control (Improv) - I tuned my Paul Westerberg First Act guitar to open G and made this up while recording on my phone. I tried to actually finish it and bring it to the band, but I could not remember how to play it. I loved it and now that it's probably lost to the music gods, I decided to let you hear the only evidence of its existence.

He Can’t Make You Laugh - I recorded this song in my bedroom after watching an episode of Modern Family. I didn't even have a microphone, I recorded the vocals directly into my computer.
